The diligent and persistent Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Fine Arts: Performing Arts and Music has, with this issue, revived a venerable, yet occasionally overlooked, tradition: inviting a member of the Editorial Board to pen a brief piece as a "Guest Editor." The privilege of authoring this inaugural editorial has fallen to me—someone who has proudly served on the Editorial Board of this journal for numerous years, and has additionally served as the Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief, and a member of the authors' council for the Journal of Performing Arts and Music (Iran University of Art) for over a decade. It can be unequivocally stated that the Journal of Fine Arts: Performing Arts and Music and the Journal of Performing Arts and Music have consistently stood as two of the most prestigious, peer-reviewed research journals in the fields of cinema, theater, animation, radio, and music.
During my Master’s studies in Art Research at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran (1994–1998), I had the distinct pleasure of meeting a young, amiable, and erudite professor, Dr. Mohammad-Bagher Ghahramani. It is my great fortune that this initial acquaintance blossomed into an enduring and steadfast friendship. Little did I imagine at the time that a day would come when the two of us would concurrently, yet independently, serve as the Editors-in-Chief of these two distinguished publications.
Since its inception in 1995, the ethos of the Journal of Fine Arts has been rigorously anchored in publishing well-argued, empirical, and scholarly research articles. This academic orientation intensified after 2009, when the journal was specialized and retitled to Fine Arts: Performing Arts and Music—a claim readily validated by a glance at the table of contents of the current issue. Furthermore, the titles of these articles exemplify the thematic diversity of the journal, spanning from theatrical discourses (e.g., "Plausible Scenarios for Iranian Theater within the 2041 Horizon") to aesthetics and anime ("A Research into the Foundations of Imagination from Gilbert Durand's Perspective in Naruto Shippuden"); from phenomenological approaches in cinema ("Phenomenology of the Body in Cinema: Examining the Distinction Between Leib and Körper in Body Representation and Audience Experience" and "A Critical Analysis of Daniel Yacavone's Critique of Merleau-Ponty's Film Phenomenology") to ethnomusicology ("The Genealogy of Tak-Dast Music in Mazandaran: From Ritual Traditions to Popular Music"); and from contemporary narratives in interactive media ("Developing Interactive Narratives in Video Games Based on Elements of Non-Verbal Storytelling") to media studies ("An Ethnographic Reading of the Representation of Cultures and Societies in Visual Media with an Emphasis on Margaret Mead's Views"). This thematic and authorial breadth is equally evident upon a cursory review of the journal's past issues.
In this context, the profound dedication of the Managing Editor, Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Director, the Editorial Board, and the technical staff is highly commendable; despite the myriad logistical and institutional challenges inherent in publishing such periodicals, they have consistently ensured its timely release. For me personally, it is a matter of great pride to have played a modest role in the publication of the Journal of Fine Arts: Performing Arts and Music over the years. A retrospective review of the Editorial Board members since the journal's founding reveals that these eminent scholars—all leading figures within their respective disciplines—alongside our distinguished peer reviewers, have played a pivotal role in elevating the academic caliber of this journal. I wholeheartedly wish continued success for this publication and all its esteemed contributors and editorial staff.
