Objective: Today's world has become an arena for the power of media, especially films and various home show series; works that, due to the expansion and popularity of online platforms, have become easily accessible to everyone and have consciously led to deep and comprehensive meaning-making and impact on individual and social levels. In this regard, the present study aims to qualitatively analyze the content of home-viewing series regarding how profanity is represented.
Method: In this qualitative and purposeful study, seven popular series on the home show platform in Iran from 2019 to 2025 were selected and analyzed.
Findings: The research process led to the identification and extraction of 15 sub-themes (including verbal threats of violence, contradictory respect for family, hate-based rhetoric, etc.), 6 main categories (such as playing with family roots, postmodernism in identity, profanity seasoned with humor, etc.), and 4 axes of representation of profanity with the titles of social context (individual/interpersonal), family context (relationships/position), cultural narrative context (verbal/irony), and the nature of profanity (humor/destruction/tension).
Conclusion: Film is not merely an artistic image, but a social writing with the purpose of representation that requires thought.
